1. Define Your Technical Requirements First

Before contacting suppliers, be very clear about:

(a) Electrical parameters

• Transformer type: distribution / power / dry-type / amorphous

• Rating (kVA / MVA)

• Frequency: 50 Hz or 60 Hz

• Voltage class

• Target no-load loss (W) and exciting current (%)

• Noise limits (especially for distribution transformers)

(b) Core structure

• Core type: 3-leg, 5-leg, shell type

• Joint type: step-lap (preferred) or mitred

• Stacking factor requirement (≥ 0.97 for GO steel)

• Lamination thickness:

  • GO silicon steel: 0.23 / 0.27 / 0.30 mm

  • Amorphous: ~0.025 mm
